Day 13: I can’t remember your name but I still think about you all the time.

Seville, 2014.

I’ve had this boy on my mind. He wanders into my mind every now and again ever since 2014. The thing is I don’t remember his name and we only met once. Don’t get your hopes up, this isn’t a story about a one night stand, but it is a sappy, heartfelt story from my study abroad trip. *cue eye roll*

Back then I had just turned 20 and was studying abroad in southern Spain. One weekend, me and a few classmates went to a nearby town: Seville. I had dreamed of going there for so long, not because it was where they filmed Game of Thrones, but because it was the heart of flamenco and I’d been romanced of the pictures of all the sweeping plazas.

This was my first weekend trip and also my first holiday away from my family. It was Eid and I was 5,000 miles away. In truth, I had actually forgotten it was Eid because I was having too much fun and also because I came down with a fever. I felt fine on the train ride from Cádiz, where I was studying, to Seville, but as soon as my feet planted themselves in the hostel, I felt my eyes glaze over and my head balloon. It definitely wasn’t the safest thing for me or the people around me to be around someone running a temperature, but this was pre-COVID times where you powered through sickness and didn’t waste time in gorgeous European cities.
