Day 12: Hilary Duff Played An International Popstar More Than Once

If Hilary Duff had a nickel for every time she portrayed a brunette international popstar with an accent she’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot, but it’s sort of weird that it happened twice.

The first time was, of course, in 2003’s The Lizzie McGuire Movie when her infamous character Lizzie was tricked into impersonating Italian popstar Isabella Parigi. In the film, Duff played both Lizzie and Isabella, but where Lizzie was anxious and lacked confidence, Isabella was sassy and donned brunette locks and an Italian accent. No one can forget the words “Sing to me, Paolo.”

So, you would think this would never happen again, only that it did five years later in the in the 2008 film War, Inc. Perhaps Duff’s portrayal of Isabella some years before is precisely what got her the gig as Yonica Babyyeah, a “Central Asian Popstar” (which I don’t have time to go into the implications of that).
